Floating Hydroponics

When you say 'floating hydroponics' I assume you mean suspending a plant to dangle its roots in constantly flowing nutrient water.

This method of hydroponics is called NFT or 'nutrient film technique' and is the method most people picture when thinking of hydroponics.

However this is not the best method used to grow strawberries...

Strawberries are grown by planting a tuberous root from which extend roots as well as a strawberry plant. This part is called the crown and is a perennial in that it will grow a plant from the same crown year after year but the roots and plant die back in the winter so they are annual.

Strawberry plants would grow well in hydroponics because they respond well to a balanced nutrient but the actual crown would soon rot from all the moisture...in an NFT system.

If grown in a system that floods and drains then the crown would not tend to rot and the plant would still benefit from the balanced nutrient supply that hydroponics provides.

So in short, stay away from NFT and go with an ebb/flow design.
