NFT pipe slope
by: Larry

My experience has been to incline the pipe for water flow and draininge at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2 inch per foot depending on the amount of roots that will be in the NFT pipe.

Larger plants with larger root systems will tend to clog a pipe and slow down water flow so a 1/2 inch per foot incline would be needed whereas smaller plants with smaller root systems will still benefit from 1/2 incline per foot but 1/4 inch per foot will also work.

Having a quick water flow around the roots is preferable to a slow water flow which may contribute to fungal and bacterial infection and root rot. In other words err on the side of 'more incline'
