Is it possible to make nutrient solution at home with resources available?

Hello sir, i am a school teacher n have taken up hydroponic gardening as school project.our school is participating in GREEN-I contest and we had to come up with a project which will help in reducing carbon footprints, make school green and will be of help to the environment.

I thought of hydroponics. I'm stuck with the nutrient solution. I do not want to use chemicals or commercial fertilizers. Can you suggest something which can be done at home with resources easily available and something which can be done by my students.

It will be very kind of you if you tell me in what quantity the nutrients are to be mixed and any site where I will find details on hydroponics for beginners and specially on nutrients and nutrient solution.

Making hydroponics nutrient at home
by: Larry, Webmaster

Growing plants without the use of chemicals is an attainable goal. One of the easiest ways is to make compost tea or worm casting tea which are explained here.

But the best blend, in my opinion, is an easily made fertilizer that works exceptionally well. Combine 1.5 teaspoons powdered fish emulsion, 1.5 teaspoons liquid seaweed extract and 1 tablespoon of blood meal for 1 gallon of water.

Each of these ingredients can be found in most garden centers as well as department stores in America or online.
