Hydroponics Fertilizer

by Rodney

Is it possible for me to be able to make my own fertilizer for hydroponics using store bought fertilizers and adding other things? If so, where would I find what other chemicals are needed and the combination of chemicals needed?

I am a farmer and growing vegetables to sell. For more efficency i use fertilizers but while using them it is important to keep it healthy because some fertilizers contain corruptive elements so i try to read everything about fertilizers and try
to keep my product healthy.

I am grateful for those who gives information about fertilizers and anyone who uses fertliziers should read about it, i also found another good guide which should be read too i think;

Making Hydroponics Fertilizer
by: Larry, Webmaster

Can you make hydroponic fertilizer using a commercial non-hydroponic fertilizer as a base?

Theoretically, yes. Individual fertilizer chemicals could be purchased separately from garden centers or hydroponic online stores although you might have some problem getting phosphorus by itself.

Not only is phosphorus used in making illegal explosives it also seems to be a big pollutant in the USA and is being limited in use in fertilizers by some states such as Minnesota (and I'm sure more states will soon follow).

That is one problem...the other glitch is that most commercial fertilizers contain much more nitrogen than needed for hydroponics. Remember that 'dirt' garden fertilizers are made knowing that a lot of applied fertilizer will be leeched away before it can be used by the plants so more nutrients than needed are packed into the mix.

This also applies to some trace minerals as well. So you could use a commercial fertilizer as a base but you would probably be more successful mixing all chemical ingredients together, separately, from scratch.

For fertilizer recipes and a comparison of different blends of fertilizer look under the 'Plant Nutrients' tab of this site.
