hydroponic tomatoes

by budge

I raised some Roma tomatoes from seed, when they were 3" tall I washed the dirt away & placed them in my Hydroponic set up. Last year I grew the same type of tomato(Roma)with great success however this year the leaves have patches of light brown on them, I'm using the same solution as last year at the same strength,"Tomato Magic" in a medium of Perlite & a small amount of Vermiculite. Am I lacking some trace elements???

Tomato Magic

Tomato Magic, if I am correct, is a kit containing soil and fertilizer for tomatoes.

But you turned the kit into hydroponic tomatoes which is fine and would work except you are probably still using the fertilizer supplied with the kit.

This fertilizer is designed for a dirt garden meaning that it contains only the main basic nutrients and little to no trace elements.

Trace elements are assumed to be in the soil. And since you have no soil you probably do have a trace mineral deficiency; maybe of magnesium, boron or copper as an off-hand guess.

Using a fertilizer designed specifically for hydroponics systems would solve your problem.
