Hydroponic pump in a flood and drain system

(Candice)

I understand that the hydroponic pump will get the water into the grow bed, but I am a little confused on how the water is getting back into the solution container.

If there is a hose running from the grow bed to the solution container, gravity will put that water back into the solution container as soon as it is pumped into the grow bed. Is that correct?

Design specifics for the ebb/flow

Yes, there is another hose running from the top of the growing container down to the nutrient solution so when the nutrient water is pumped into the bottom of the growing container, it rises until it reaches a hose at the top of the container.

Upon reaching this hose it flows back out into the nutrient solution where it can be repumped into the growing container.

In addition once the pump cycle ends and the pump stops filling the growing container the solution in the growing container slowly drains back down into and through the pump back into the nutrient solution container.

Hope this answers your question!
