Growing Orchids in Rockwool

by Greg
(Auckland)

Although this is not a hydroponics question I see that you make mention of Rockwool as a growing medium and I was wondering if you have any advice or if you could point me to information about growing orchids in Rockwool. I can't find any authoritative information on the subject

I have in the past used a mixture of 50% grated polystyrene and 50% grated Rockwool. I watered the plants once or twice a week.

I do not have any orchids for the moment, but I am thinking of starting to grow them again and I am busy refreshing my knowledge about them.

Regards
Greg

Orchid Growing Mediums

Growing Orchids is not something I've ever done, Greg, but I did find 2 resources for you to check out...http://www.ont.co.za/rockwool.htm and http://books.google.com/books?id=25iDt4MHlrcC&pg=PA32&lpg=PA32&dq=orchids+rockwool&source=web&ots=GUgQYbt4Kt&sig=QFz29zP1A31UhFjsj7XE69Q3vjc&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=11&ct=result

That is quite the link and it points to a Google book search. I hope I've helped... Larry
