fill and drain pumps

What type of pump would be the best if you want it to be on a timer? I need one that will automatically drain back into the water solution source when the pump stops. I would like a submersible pump if this type would work the best.

The best Hydoponic Pump on a Timer
by: Larry, Webmaster

First of all, a submersible pump is the best type of hydroponic pump to use, in my opinion.

Second, in a flood and drain system nutrient solution is pumped from a nutrient solution reservoir into a container with plants, fills the container to a certain level then overflows through a tube back into the reservoir.

The pump keeps pumping in nutrient solution, which eventually flows back into the nutrient solution container for a set amount of time and then turns off.

And this is achieved by plugging the pump into a timer which is plugged into an outlet. The timer is set to turn the pump on for maybe 15 minutes every hour and then turns off.

So it's the timer that turns the pump on and off - it's not a special kind of pump.

Does that clear things up or make them more confused?
