Feeding while blind??

by Lisa

I recently started a hydroponic fish tank. Started Romaine Lettuce from seed. Had the pH and Nutrient sticks, but Nutrient stick wouldn't work, so I'm in the process of returning and waiting for a replacement.

Meanwhile, I've added the first dose of Floragro & Florabloom. Without knowing what the nutrient levels are, how often should I add more of the nutrients. I started the Lettuce last Friday and they are up and looking good--so far!!

Thanks for responce

Thanks for your help. I don't have fish in the tank and I will never buy a meter off ebay again. The seller says they don't take returns so now I'm out about $40. Be careful what you buy on ebay.

Aquaponics, adding more nutrient
by: Larry, Webmaster

When to add more nutrient to a hydroponics system is a tricky thing, Lisa. Assuming you have fish in that fish tank, too much nutrient will kill them and too little will hurt the lettuce.

Until you get a nutrient stick, you need a general guide such as this: I have 12 plants in a hydroponics system feeding off the nutrient in 8 gallons of nutrient solution.

After 2 weeks this nutrient is pretty much depleted so the nutrient solution must be replaced. Go by that until you get a new stick. Right now I'd recommend leaving it alone until the plants actually show signs of nutrient deficiency such as yellowing of lower leaves, etc.

Any one else out there have any advice?
