Are hydroponics chemicals harmful?

I have a friend who's into hydroponics & uses chemicals & their children are showing signs of mental illnesses & other personal hygiene problems. They are in counseling & medicated but no one can pin point the cause of either child's defects.

I saw a program where a man became very ill & on death row due to the chemicals & manure he had used in his hydroponics & so I was wondering what are the long term side affects with these chemicals.

The children are not eating this product but instead absorbing the chemicals through the skin.
Am I on the right track with investigating this?

Are hydroponics chemicals harmful? It is hard to say. Any chemical that is artificially created and condensed is probably harmful with long term exposure.

The ultimate cause of behavior problems is most likely not one single factor. Certainly all the pollutants in our environment may contribute to such problems but going back and blaming one specific source like hydroponics chemicals is not valid.

I also saw a television show where someone who was secretly growing marijuana in a hydroponics system became very sick and almost died. It turned out he was using pigeon droppings as an organic form of fertilizer which he left sitting in the sun. This bred some rare but nasty bacteria which almost killed him.

So what is causing your friend's childrens' behavior problems? You will probably never know and the cause is probably a whole list of things combined.

Counseling for such behavior problems is a good thing, in fact, individual counseling or group therapy for anyone at all is a good thing (I'm a counselor).

My suggestion is to focus on what can be done now for the future rather than focusing on the past to find a blame.
