Above the ground boxes

I'm getting on in years (62) and want to use the grow box principles but want to build three boxes, each with a 4x8 plywood base and side boards of 8-10 inches. I plan on putting them on legs so the actual bed is waist high..keeps the rabbits at bay and my back friendly.

I plan on putting hinges that have drop pins in (somewhat like a door hinge) so I can readily disassemble them if I ever do purchase another home....

Any obvious pitfalls with my scheme?

An above ground grow box would not be a Mittleider box - it would be a passive system.

Would it be just as good? Yes.

A Mittleider box sits on the ground so plant roots can grow down into the ground to take advantage of any needed nutrients.

So if the box is raised all nutrients will need to come from the nutrient solution which is perfectly fine.

The only problem I can really see is weight. A dense growing medium will be very heavy so supporting legs should be strong.

Other than that, give it a try...
