A Question on Fertilizer

First of all thanks for doing such a wonderful job, your information can really help others who can't afford to buy such systems (which can be expensive). I need a small help on nutrients, I am planning to use monopotassium phosphate instead of monocalcium phosphate; can I use the same weight 113 gms?

My macro nutrients:

255 g of potassium nitrate(saltpeter),
198 g of calcium sulfate
170 g of magnesium sulfate,
113 g of monopotassium phosphate,
43 g of ammonium sulfate, and
1/2 scant tsp. of iron sulfate. Combine thoroughly and store in a dry container. Mix 1 tsp. of this nutrient mix to 1 gallon of water.

Trace elements:

1 tsp. of manganese sulfate,
1 tsp. of boric acid,
1/2 tsp. of zinc sulfate and 1/2 tsp of copper sulfate.

Combine thoroughly and store in a dry container. Dissolve 1/2 tsp of this powder in 1 qt. of water, and add 1/3 oz. of the resultant mixture to 1 gallon of the nutrient solution above

Phosphate Substitute
by: Anonymous

First of all I must stress that I am not a chemist but whether you use monopotassium phosphate (MKP) or monocalcium phosphate (MCP) you primarily want phosphate in a form usuable by plants. MKP provides slightly more usuable phosphate by weight than MCP but not enough to be concerned with.

MKP also contains Potassium which you already use but lacks the calcium of MCP. So to substitute MKP for MCP you would have to lower the amount of potassium you add and you would need to increase the amount of calcium. As for what specific measurements to use, that would take someone with chemical experience. You could try sample mixtures on a small number of plants and chart growth rate...
