Sunstream Gro-Well System
by: Larry, Webmaster

The Sunstream Gro-Well System is a standard ebb and flow design that usually comes with a submersible pump so nutrient solution is regularly pumped flooding the plant roots to provide nutrient then 'overflows' back to a nutrient container to be reused again.

How often to flood can be tricky. At one extreme the plant roots cannot be allowed to dry out while on the other extreme too much flooding may drown the plant or encourage root rot and damping-off disease.

I generally set my timer to turn on the pump and flood my plant roots with nutrient solution for 10 to 15 minutes each hour. If intense sunlight hits the plants I may flood more often while at night I may only flood 20 minutes every 2 hours.

These times are only general guidelines. You will find the right frequency with a little experimentation. Watch your plants and if they begin to wilt, check the roots to see if dry. If dry, flood more often. If the plant wilts and the roots are wet then try flooding less often.
